AddisFly - Grades & Growth

Grades & Growth

There are two separate ways to grow at AddisFly, and you can move along either one without waiting for the other.

What it is What it changes When it moves
Your level Intern → Junior → Senior → Supervisor → Manager Your job, your scorecard, what you are allowed to decide When you are promoted into a seat
Your grade Grade 1 → Grade 5 Your pay One grade per completed year of service

Your designation carries the level. Your grade carries the years. So a Sales & Marketing – Senior, Grade 1 and a Sales & Marketing – Senior, Grade 4 do the same job — the second has been here longer and is paid more for it.

Why both exist

There are not enough senior seats for everyone, and there never will be. Most people will spend years doing the same job well. The grade ladder is what recognises that. You do not have to wait for someone to leave before your work is worth more.

How a grade is earned

Time makes you eligible. The appraisal confirms it.

Reaching your next anniversary does not grant the grade automatically — it qualifies you for it, and the grade is confirmed at your appraisal. If the year did not go well, the grade waits.

Grade Reached after
Grade 1 you join
Grade 2 1 year
Grade 3 2 years
Grade 4 3 years
Grade 5 4 years

At Grade 5 there are no more steps. That is deliberate: it forces the conversation about promoting you to the next level rather than letting you quietly top out.

When you are promoted, your grade resets to 1 of the new level — and Grade 1 of a higher level pays more than Grade 5 of the one below. You do not lose anything.

Acting up — covering a bigger job

If you cover a role above your own before it is formally yours, that is recorded as an Additional Role scorecard sitting beside your real one. Your own job stays your Main Role and your own scorecard is what you are appraised on; the delegation is written down, measured, and handed back or made permanent later.

Seven people are currently run this way. It is the normal path into a bigger seat, not an exception.

Where to look

  • Your grade is on your Employee record.
  • Your level, scorecard and targets are on your Job Scorecard.
